South Africa’s former President, Jacob Zuma has stated that he is ready to go to jail after failing to appear before a commission of inquiry on several occasions.

The Zondo Commission which is supposed to probe Zuma for Allegations of State Capture run out of patience after his refusal to honor its invitation
Dissatisfied with the happening, the commission approached the constitutional court demanding the arrest and punishment of the former president for defying their order.
“There are strong reasons why Mr Zuma should be imprisoned and he should be fined or received a suspended sentence.” Tembeka Ngcukaitobi said.
However, the former president released a statement on March 25th, 2021 explaining why he failed to appear before the commission. Mr. Zuma stated that he demanded the recusal of Deputy Chief Justice who he considered very biased towards him over the period but this was not honored so he felt he won’t get fair treatment.
In the statement made up of 26 solid points, Jacob Zuma further referred to the entire judiciary as a corrupt organ, calling them autocratic stooges.
He said finally that, he is not afraid to go to jail; “they can put my physical body behind prison doors, however, my spirit is free to speak against the injustice of the imprisonment” he said.
