According to reports, the African Union (AU) Commission Mussa Fakki supported having Ukraine President Zelensky address AU heads of state and governments. However, the African Union Bureau of Heads of State and Government, a task force within the continental body agreed that the AU will seek an audience with both countries as it seeks to secure trade routes for grain into Africa.
Zelensky made the requests in April via phone calls to President Macky Sall of Senegal, the current African Union Chairman, and African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, reported the East African. The besieged Ukrainian president wanted to address the Assembly at its May meeting in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
