The World Economic Forum (WEF) is leading an ambitious endeavor to create a map of the cybercrime ecosystem based on open-source data. The Atlas project, which includes Fortinet, Microsoft, and other private-sector companies, aims to map the relationships between criminal groups and their infrastructure in order to aid both industry and the public sector — law enforcement and government agencies — in disrupting these nefarious ecosystems.
This kind of insight into gang members’ links can aid security researchers in identifying vulnerabilities in the criminals’ supply chain and developing stronger mitigation techniques and security controls for their customers. An atlas is a collection of maps and graphs that aid in the visualization of topography.
