On Tuesday, a 32-year-old man from Cape Town became the second confirmed case of monkeypox in South Africa.
According to Foster Mohale, a spokesperson for the health department, Health Minister Joe Phaahla is urging people to exercise caution.
According to Mohale, the second person had no history of travel, raising the likelihood of a local transmission significantly. Monkeypox is less contagious than smallpox and has milder symptoms, but as more cases are reported, the situation slowly worsens.
“Phaahla advised the population to practice good hygiene habits and other preventative measures, which were successful in halting the spread of Covid-19.
