Moses Damilola Fehintola, a Nigerian student studying for his medical degree from a Ukrainian university took to the internet livid at what has been called nasty remark from Nigeria’s medical authority.
It was a relief that Moses was able to flee conflict in Ukraine and could continue his medical studies online. But, he received a WhatsApp message in all caps telling him that his distance-learning credentials would not be recognized after all, narrated Moses. Cold and formal language was used.
In an announcement made to BBC, “the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria will not honor medical and dental degree certificates produced by medical schools in Ukraine starting in 2022 until regular academic activities are resumed, we wish to inform the general public”, said the body.
Thousands of international students from more than 110 different countries get higher education in Ukraine today and a good part of them attracted by medical studies as medical schools in Ukraine are one of the top choices due to very low living cost, low tuition fees and quality of medical studies. Most of them come from India, Nigeria, China, Turkey, Morocco, Russia, Malaysia and central European countries.
