On Monday, July 4, a group of women in Freetown, Sierra Leone, protested the difficult economic circumstances that are making living intolerable.
Videos of the protest posted on social media that Africanews saw showed the women holding placards with messages decrying police brutality and rising commodity prices. The demonstrators demanded that the president take action.
The women were walking through the Central Business District while chanting into handheld microphones. They were all dressed in black.
Meanwhile, Dr. Femi Claudius Cole, the founder, and leader of the Unity Party was detained yesterday evening on suspicion of instigating the protesting women.
