More than 400 convicts were freed by suspected Boko Haram militants in a raid on Kuje Prison in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. Officials claim that four prisoners, one security guard, and a number of attackers were all slain when the jail was attacked on Tuesday night. The terrorists released imprisoned Boko Haram Fighters and other Islamic inmates.
According to reports, the militants gained entry in 50 minutes, shooting and detonating eight bombs. They delivered a 15-minute Quranic lecture and gave the prisoners transport fares, abandoning the Christians.
Since 2020, around 5,000 prisoners have broken out of prison in Nigeria. It is reported that during the attack took place, loud explosions and gunfire were audible close to the Kuje medium-security prison, which is located just outside the capital.
“We overheard gunfire on my street. We believed it to be armed robbers,” a local told the news agency AFP. “After the shooting, there was the first explosion. Then a second one and then a third one were heard.
The attack not only resulted in the deaths of four prisoners but also the injuries of 16 others, according to Nigeria’s correctional service.
