On Monday, representatives from the three African countries in the UN Security Council denounced prejudice against African citizens at the Ukrainian border.
Kenya, Ghana, and Gabon strongly condoned the ill-treatment of African citizens fleeing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, especially students who have reported being subjected to discrimination, racism, and abuse.
Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the UN Martin Kimani and former president of the said “the abuse of African peoples on Europe’s borders needs to halt immediately, whether to the Africans fleeing Ukraine or to those crossing the Mediterranean.”
“The reports of discrimination against Africans in Ukraine, which the African Union called “shockingly racist,” have left it “disturbed,” according to the organization.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, foreign students trying to leave the country reported to CNN that they were subjected to racial discrimination at the Ukraine-Poland border.
Fleeing students primarily from India and Africa, accused Ukrainian border guards and security personnel of acting with prejudice toward international students in numerous ways. The Ukrainian border authorities have since refuted these claims.
