Eight people have been detained by Kenyan police for distributing flyers that allegedly contained hate speech and threatened some communities to leave the Uasin Gishu district in the Rift Valley ahead of next week’s elections.
According to local media, Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i said the suspects would be brought before a judge and persecuted.
The minister added that more security teams will be sent to the troubled areas. Kenyans are expected to select a new president, 47 county governors, hundreds of members of parliament, and county ward representatives in the highly contested August 9 elections.
