According to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 80 civilians were killed in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria state in July.
Conflicts between different ethnic groups in Kapoeta North county led to the killings. The UN agency claims that it is unclear what caused the conflicts. However, food shortages, inter-communal violence, conflict, and disease outbreaks were still present and getting worse as of July. South Sudan’s humanitarian situation is still grave warns OCHA.
The UN agency claims that more than 17,500 individuals in the region were also displaced as a result of the violence in its most recent humanitarian snapshot, which was released on Tuesday.
