This week ends with the 2-year-old ethnic conflict resuming in Ethiopia after 5 months of a cease-fire that was declared to allow humanitarian aid. It is now alleged that TPLF forces are massacring Amharas in the occupied towns of Raya Kobo Woreda, Amhara Region. On the other hand, the OLA is reported to have massacred Amharas in Horo Guduru Wollega, Oromia Region.
Residents of Western Wollega a region of Oromia located in the Western part of Ethiopia, claim to be living in fear following the latest ‘Agamsa Massacre’ in which at least 50 people were killed.
Social media activists are calling on human rights bodies to intervene. Some accuse members of the Amhara-Fano militia group of being responsible for the attack which reportedly, happened after the government’s Oromia special forces withdrew from the region. During the attacks, homes were set on fire, and the property was looted.
The Amhara Media Center, on the other hand, reported that 43 Amhara people were killed by Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in Agamsa, identifying the location as Amuru Woreda in Horo Guduru Wollega, Oromia Region.
The United States White House released a statement on Friday, condemning the resumption of fighting in Tigray.
The regional authorities have not yet provided comments in response to inquiries from the BBC. Western Ethiopia has continued to see frequent violent attacks despite the harsh civil war in the north of the nation just resuming after a five-month truce. Violence in other areas of the nation has likewise persisted.
