Authorities in the northern Nigerian state of Jigawa reported that at least nine people have died and two more are missing as a result of severe flooding in Gabarin town, Jigawa.
It is reported that officials in neighboring Kano state released water from a large dam, and combined with excessive rains in the area on Sunday flooding was inevitable.
Men, women, and children who were on board a boat that was swept away by raging floods are among the victims. According to local elders, the flood that hit at least seven towns in the Ringim area has destroyed dozens of homes and farmland.
Additionally, hundreds of individuals have been displaced.
According to the Nigerian government, a series of floods across the nation have so far harmed more than 500,000 people. The regular wet season often sparks deadly floods.
