On Tuesday 30 September, the Africa Parliamentary Press Network paid an official work visit to the APPN Caucus in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, Southern Africa.This is after the West Africa-based team took part in a workshop for the media hosted by the Pan African Parliament (PAP) in Midrand, South Africa.
The delegation from the APPN leadership and secretariat included the Coordinator of the APPN platform Mr. Gilbert Borketey Boyefio, the head of secretariat Mr. Sammy Obeng, and the Dean of the APPN Ghana Caucus Mr. Clement Akoloh.
The Lesotho Caucus of the APPN, led by its Dean, Mr. Nkoale Abuti Oetsi, received the delegation at the Secretariat of the Senate. The team met with representatives of the Lesotho Senate and the General Assembly’s administrative teams, as well as the Lesotho Parliamentary Clerk, officials from the department in charge of public relations, and other staff members, to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern.
In the very center of Maseru, the capital, they were taken on a sightseeing trip that included the Senate House and the National Assembly building.
The visit is a regular practice and a method of feedback approved by the APPN Secretariat and APPN Steering Committee to assess the effectiveness and advancement of the various Caucuses. Additionally, this acts as a form of oversight over the Caucuses to make sure that everything is conducted in accordance with the Regulatory Framework of the Network. The working relationship between the Caucus and the Parliament is also strengthened through this diplomatic technique.
