An accused murderer of his Nigerian lover, a Chinese businessman Geng Quanrong, has been remanded in custody by a magistrates’ court in Kano, northern Nigeria after murdering his 22-year-old lover Ummukulthum Sani Buhari. Magistrate Hanif Sanusi Ciroma charged the 47-year-old man, with murder at his arraignment on Wednesday. No plea has yet been offered by the accused.
The actual details of the incident on Friday night is unknown, however locals and family sources claim that the estranged lovers began to have issues after the deceased said she was no longer interested in marrying Geng.
The victim was allegedly stabbed and had her throat slit with a knife last weekend after Geng Quanrong, allegedly forced his way into her family’s home. The young woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival, reports say.
Social media users and the victim’s family demanded justice after the killing inflamed public indignation throughout Nigeria.They pleaded with the judge to give them more time to file appropriate accusations.
According to a Kano State judiciary spokeswoman, the case has been postponed till October 13th.Residents raised the alarm, and the culprit was caught as he tried to flee the area. He has been detained by police since since.
