Ebola virus cases have jumped in Uganda just days after the East African nation confirmed the first case in Mubende District, declaring an epidemic of the infectious disease. On Friday Uganda had confirmed seven cases, one death and seven suspected Ebola deaths. Seven deaths and 30 hospital admissions have been reported in Mubende on Saturday morning, according to local media.
It is reported that the origin of the outbreak, often known as “patient zero,” has not yet been identified. However, Ugandan officials were able to identify the outbreak’s epicenter, the region of Mubende in central Uganda, whose main town is situated along a road leading to Kampala, the country’s capital.
Kyobe Henry Bbosa, incident commander for the Ebola outbreak at the Ugandan Ministry of Health warned the World Health Organization that the area’s congested artisanal gold mining and that travel link are alarming.
One of the cases that confirmed on Thursday involved a 24-year-old man who passed away after experiencing a high temperature, bloody vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. He was initially treated for malaria before being found to have the Sudan form of the Ebola virus.According to officials, seven further deaths are being looked into as possible examples of a strain for which there is now no vaccination.
