A brand new political party formed in March 2022 contested and won resoundingly in the recently held elections in the Kingdom of Lesotho, Southern Africa on Monday.

The six-month old party Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) party, was founded by the businessman-turned-politician and now Prime Minister Sam Matekane who was often trolled and called a ‘social media President’.
It is reported that the party’s landslide victory in the elections held on 07 October 2022, is owed to the youth who went out in full force to support and vote.
Lesotho’s 64 year-old prime minister will be deputized by the kingdom’s first woman Chief Justice Ebile Moruo, who also becomes the first woman to ever hold the post in the country.
The pro-business politician who made his fortune in the diamond industry picked up 56 seats in the legislature – five seats short of an absolute majority. Thus, he is forming a coalition government with Alliance of Democrats (AD) and Movement for Economic Change (MEC). According to ion.co.za, the AD won six seats in the elections, and MEC five.
The new leadership has announced that the incoming coalition government will set a strong tone in response to Lesotho‘s most critical priorities, which include national reforms, austerity, crime & the creation of an enabling environment for accelerated growth.
Speaking to SABC News on Tuesday, PM Sam Matekane said members of his coalition government will use their own cars and stay at their houses until the economy recovers. “Corruption is the biggest disease we have in this country, we will work to root it out completely, ” said PM Matekane to BBC News Africa.
