The Southern African country of Angola launched its second telecommunications satellite on Wednesday, October 12 2022 in Baikonur, Kyzylodar Province of Kazakhstan. The AngoSAT-2 replaces the Angosat-1, manufactured and assembled for Angola by Roscosmos, a state corporation of the Russian Federation responsible for space flights, cosmonautics programs, and aerospace research.
The launch was aboard the Proton-M Blok DM-03 rocket at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Middle Eastern country, it is reported. It is a four stage Russian heavy-lift launch vehicle derived from the Soviet Proton launch vehicle.
According to AfricaNews.com, Africa, countries have launched 5 satellites so far this year, and Angola’s recent launch brings the total number of Africa’s launches to 49.
