According to news reports, Belgian police arrested Eva Kaili, a European Parliament vice president along with some others after alleged bags of cash were discovered by police at her home. Eva’s father was also detained while reportedly fleeing with a suitcase full of Qatari cash.
Eva is also on the committee for Middle East and North African Affairs, her Italian partner -and father of her child- Francesco Giorgi, a Parliament adviser on the Middle East and North Africa affairs was also detained.
Eva Kaili, a former journalist and TV presenter, is one of 14 vice presidents in the European Parliament, representing Greece’s Socialist PASOK party. News reports said that an announcement has been made through Twitter by Greece Socialist ( PASOK) that Kaili had been expelled from the party.
In addition, effective immediately, Kaili is reported to have lost all powers, duties, and responsibilities assigned to her in that capacity. That decision is said to have been taken on Saturday, 10 December 2022, by Parliament President.
The unfolding of accusations of corruption in December 2022, allegedly linked to a Gulf country, is reported to have sent shockwaves across Europe. Some are said to be describing the incident as the biggest corruption scandal in the history of the European Parliament.
