The presidential candidate of the Labour Party and election front-runner Governor Peter Gregory Obi (CON), will discuss his vision for policy and governance reforms at Chatham House next week Jan. 16th. The presidential hopeful will be the second candidate to be interviewed by the London-based Anglo-American institution in a series of exclusive seminars ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections.

Last week, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu, stirred another controversy when he delegated Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State and other members of his team to respond to questions posed to him at the Chatham House in the United Kingdom, it is reported.

Nigeria is scheduled to hold presidential and national assembly elections on 25 February as well as governorship and other subnational elections on 11 March. The elections end President Muhammadu Buhari’s two terms in office since his election in 2015 and mark the first time he is not a candidate in a presidential election in 20 years

Nigeria’s general elections this year are special as they’re being held under the reforms brought about by Nigeria’s Electoral Act, enacted in February 2022. There’s a high expectation for this presidential race to present a turning point for the long-troubled West African state, not only for democracy but for a positive shift in the economy and welfare of Africa’s most populous country.

According to social media polls, Obi is the frontrunner with many taking confidence in his career as a businessman, and governor of Anambra State to enable him to remedy the security, economy, and corruption which are among many other defining issues for citizens i.e. unprecedented levels of physical and food insecurity, persistent fuel scarcity, and high levels of crude oil theft.
