Keenan Anderson, a cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder, died from cardiac arrest after being repeatedly tased by Los Angeles police on the afternoon of January 3, 2023. The 31-year-old father and English teacher died from cardiac arrest last week. According to the Los Angeles Police Department report, a West Traffic Division motor officer was flagged down for a traffic collision in the area of Venice Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard in the Pacific Area after a male, later identified as Keenan Anderson was running in the middle of the street and exhibiting erratic behavior.

The LAPD said the force was used when Anderson attempted to flee the scene and resisted contact with police. Anderson was subsequently handcuffed and hobbled at the ankles. Bodycam footage of the incident shows Mr. Anderson initially complying with police before running away into traffic. An officer on a motorcycle pursued Mr. Anderson, catching up with him and ordering him to lie on the ground where he was tasered multiple times as police tried to restrain him.

Shortly after Anderson was taken into custody, and later transported via a rescue ambulance (RA) to a local hospital in the City of Santa Monica where he went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced deceased.
