NEW DELHI/ St. GEORGE’s: Grenada’s Minister of Health, Philip Telesford, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to economic transformation and global partnerships during his recent visit to India. Engaging with key stakeholders, he outlined opportunities for investment in healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure, positioning Grenada as an emerging hub in the Eastern Caribbean.
In an exclusive interview with WNN-ST, Minister Telesford emphasized that Grenada is more than just a picturesque tourist destination; it is an investment-friendly nation with a strong economy, low crime rates, and a forward-thinking government. “We see ourselves as the Dubai of the Eastern Caribbean,” he said, highlighting the nation’s vision for aggressive economic growth through strategic global alliances. His visit to India follows diplomatic engagements in Europe, where he advocated for sustainable healthcare development and technological advancements.

Recognizing the strong historical and cultural ties between India and the Caribbean, Telesford encouraged Indian businesses to explore opportunities in Grenada. He pointed out that the country offers significant incentives, including tax concessions, financial support, and a stable economy with a currency pegged to the US dollar. The government is actively seeking investments in state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, renewable energy, and agri-tech solutions. He noted that with its fertile land and favorable climate, Grenada is looking to modernize its agricultural sector with innovative technologies such as drone farming and smart irrigation.
Tourism remains a key pillar of Grenada’s economy, and Telesford underscored the need for greater connectivity between India and the Caribbean. Acknowledging the lack of direct flights, he expressed optimism that increased awareness and demand could justify new air routes. “If even a small percentage of Indian tourists choose Grenada, it would be enough to establish a direct flight,” he said. He invited travelers to explore the island’s pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and welcoming Indian-Caribbean community.
Telesford also touched on Grenada’s Investment Migration Program, which offers global mobility benefits to investors. He reiterated the country’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and creating a business-friendly environment. “Our government is young, dynamic, and committed to progress. We are here to create partnerships that are mutually beneficial,” he stated.
Reflecting on previous diplomatic engagements, Telesford recalled discussions between Grenada’s Prime Minister and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the CARICOM Summit, where trade and investment were key topics. He emphasized Grenada’s intention to expand its global outreach beyond traditional partners, ensuring sustainable development and economic resilience.
As Grenada enters a new era of economic transformation, Telesford’s visit to India marks a significant step in fostering deeper ties between the two nations. With a government focused on innovation and investment, the Caribbean nation is open for business, inviting global investors, professionals, and tourists to be part of its growth story.
